Thanks Dave. Perhaps it was in your construction photos where I read of it!

>>>>>Just few days ago, I read about PocketShip. It looks great. Is it possible that you describe the major differences to AD16. Both are new and modern designs. I know, it is difficult for a designer to compare own designs with other designs. Maybe you can try it.>>>>>>

I've not sailed the "AD16" so I can't comment on it, and to the extent I have opinions about that design, I'm prejudiced because I designed PocketShip! I'd enjoy a sail-off between the two, and I'd know which one I'd put my money on.

I would say this:
In your research, look for published editorial reviews of the AD16 by mainstream magazines. For example, PocketShip was profiled recently in Sailing Magazine and WoodenBoat Magazine:

http://www.clcboats.com/print/woodenboa ... ml?print=1

Videos are helpful in assessing the design with your own eyeballs, such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcM4XrwDsXQ

Look for blogs about the two boats and form your own impression of the building experience. Here are some PocketShip blogs (very fun!):

Finally, acquire a copy of the plans and manual for each boat and compare them side-by-side. It's a small investment, but the level of detail and thoughtfulness of presentation is going to make a big difference in your project.

With all of that data you can make an educated decision on the boat that's going to work for you.

>>>>>>>Looking at the Pocketship plans, at a guess, there must be something like a cubic metre of foam in watertight compartments...

PocketShip has 648 pounds of non-optional foam flotation built into the hull. The actual wooden components add to the flotation, of course. I calculated the volume of timber at one point but forgot the final number. It was something like 400 pounds of positive buoyancy in addition to the foam. The thing won't sink, and by the numbers it will float stable and upright in a flooded condition. By the numbers, it's self-righting past 100 degrees.

Thanks Kieth...

Going back to the CLC Construction Gallery, one photo did show the cockpit drain holes, a very important feature, how did I miss that?? Looks like my money is definitely on the Pocketship, time to order the plans!

I've sailed dinghies to go island hopping and constant bailing to keep it from getting swamped is pretty tedious and tiring.

Cheers.
