New Launch in NY

My pocketship, Wild at Heart, launched and sailed for the first time this weekend in Port Jefferson harbor.

No real issues. Everything worked as expected. It was a very nice mellow sail in calm waters and 5-10 knots.
Sailed and handled well. Responsive and felt predictable. Looking forward to more time on the water in more conditions.
Lots of center-console fishing boats out and I think everyone on the boat ramp and on the water paused to pay complements to the look of the boat.

I did forget to put the CB inspection port covers on. So a little water got in down below.
The torqeedo worked great. It will take some getting used to the silence of it. It's quieter than the water slapping the hull.
I had purchased the kit in 2014. Built the keel right away and there it sat for 6 years.
Stopping work travel for Covid, decided to go ahead and get it done.
Had to build under a tent on a sloping gravel driveway.
So I cant attest that everything that should be is level, square and true.
But I did the best I could under the conditions. I'm very pleased with the result.
Great design John and thank you for all you and CLC do.

Congrats!

We need a picture!

Which Torqeedo did you get? I'd like to find out how well it pushes the Pocketship and what kind of range you get.

Congratulations! Post some photos.

Mine is almost finished, and I hope to have it in the water by mid-November.

on the Torqeedo, I bought the 1103 CS.
The short shaft is good with lowerable engine mount.
No idea on range yet but it pushed at hull speed at or below half-throttle, which the company claims will deliver 18 miles.
I figure i have a full additional charge on board in my Lead-acid battery if needed.
Plus I'll have 40 watts of solar on the companionway hood and another 50 in the cockpit when at anchor.

You might notice the bob-stay is a bit different.
I had an ornamental broadsword hanging around and since it's stainless steel, and goes with the boat name(which is also engraved on the blade), I thought it might make an interesting bobstay. I like it.

I hope to be at that point this time next year. That sailing picture is great incentive!

It's hard to make out the bow-stay, got a closer shot?

Looks good!
It’s interesting to see what people have done to personalize their Pocketship.

Thanks for the Torqeedo info. I want to go electric myself and am looking at the options. A friend gave me an old trolling motor that I may customize to use on mine.

One other think that is a bit different.
John mentioned in the manual that you might want to put the spinnaker sheet on a track for trimming.
I thought it would also be a handy place for attaching a fender or a spring line or whatever.
I found this track, block, and sheets as a kit intended for a lightning.
