Cabin storage in seatback

Too cold to work so I’m playing around with ideas. The forward flotation chambers in the seatbacks are pretty small, so I’m wondering if that could be turned into a storage area accessible from inside the cabin? I wouldn’t open the whole area on the cabin wall but a smallish access hole. I don’t think the loss in flotation would be significant but having storage there would be really handy I would think. Could even put in a screw-in deck plate so that it maintains itself as a watertight compartment. Or separate the area with the top as flotation and the bottom part as storage. Anyone done this?

Steve, Ooo, I like this idea. This could be a great place to roll up a map or stash dry food. I'm going to look at this closely once I get to this spot in my build. Might this not be a great place to store a radio, phone or iPad mini?

Clever! Could be handy place to store your registration or handheld VHF or a wine bottle, depending on your priorities.

Gday Steve, I did this to my latest boat ( A Mach 28 Australian built trailer sailer) and couldn’t believe the extra storage space it provided. I finished the mod with a mirrored hinged door and was in the good books with the “old girl” for months,
Cheers mate

Might have enough room for a Darwin stubby!
