Water bladder storage and transom ice box

G'Day to all PocketShip enthusiasts,
I would be interested in your thoughts, ideas or feedback on a couple of mods I am considering for my PocketShip.
I am currently at the filleting stage of the build and I thought the area under the floor boards between bulkhead 2 and 3, and/or bulkhead 3 and 4 might be a good space to add water bladders. Obviously I would need to consider maintaing the draining ability between the limber holes in the frames and the bladders would require a pumping system, filling hoses ect.
The other mod I considered was to add an ice box between the cockpit seats at the transom, it seems an area that has no real purpose. It can be the same height as the cockpit seats and still allow cockpit drainage through pipes to the transom.
just some thoughts I have, what do think, good or crazy?
Cheers

Terry,

You might consider using sealed bladders like MSR Dromedary water bladders. This would keep it simple and eliminate the need for the hoses and pump. They could simply be lifted out for usage or changing the water.

I think the transom cooler sounds ideal and look forward to seeing your creative solution.

I really like the cooler idea. Along those lines, I’ve been thinking how to best integrate some drink holders in the cockpit. In my Jimmy skiff over the weekend and it was all kinds of trouble. There are some brute force ways to do this (ie screw something to the seat back or transom) but I’d prefer it be a little more subtle. I’m thinking of having something flush in the seat in both the very back corners. Maybe other places too, we’ll see.

So Hooky, I've been thinking about your cooler idea. I'm probably going to steal it. But I think I might make it simple storage as opposed to worrying about insulation and such. Though it does seem like dead space as you say, it is still relatively pretty small and insulation/piping will make it smaller. And then you have to worry about icing it down.

I'm thinking...if you just make it dry storage, you can put anything you want in it, including a small soft cooler that you bring from the house already packed up. You wouldn't be able to fit any more drinks/etc. in there anyway. Now you have the best of both worlds. Though granted...the insulation of a little soft cooler isn't that great. So...depends on your end goal I guess.

I hope some folks who've been sailing pocketship for a while will chime in as to whether they think that space is useful or not.

I've found the aft end of the footwell (as is) to be a great place to store a small plastic gas can and a cooler. I see no need to enclose it and think that doing so would just complicate things and limit efficient and varied use of the space. Like creekboater said, considering the room insulation would take I'd think the interior volume would not be worth the trade off. Just my opinion. I'd certainly be interested to see what you may come up with, though.

Thanks for the feedback guys I really appreciate your opinions. I'm currently still filleting but I will certainly post my mods when I get to that stage.
Cheers
