How to trace out a properly dimensioned keel cap?

Postby Creekboater on Sun Jan 01, 2023 9:58 pm

I just finished pouring the lead for my keel and now need to cut a cap for the aft section. I know what the manual says but what you’re tracing is the outside dimension. You need to cut to the inside dimension. What is everyone doing? Im assuming maybe just measuring and marking off a quarter inch inside your tracing and cutting that?

Any reason a kit builder couldn’t just use the pattern template provided for the taper of the aft bottom keel blocking???

Looking at it this morning I think using the keel block pattern is the way to go. It’s an inch or so short but it’s easy to extend the lines. Laminating a couple of quarter inch pieces now and will then cut out the cap.

G'Day Martin,
I traced the outside dimension onto a length of ply and then reduced it all round by the keel side thickness, I did it this way in case the keel dimensions varied slightly after pouring the lead, this ensured a nice fitting keel cap.
Cheers
