Tabernacle fit to mast

I think the last assembly project I have on this build is the tabernacle. I got the side pieces cut and drilled and filled a long time ago. I think I found the rear part of the assembly but when I put the pieces together around the mast it’s a very close fit. By the time I add epoxy and varnish I’m sure it will rub.

I could make a new, slightly wider rear piece but I’m interested to know the experience of other builders. Should there be any space between the tabernacle and mast? I just hate to get it all assembled and then can’t install the mast.

Oh, and each piece measures 3 - 1/16”, so, yeah it will be tight. Perhaps I didn’t clamp the mast well enough as it’s supposed to be 3”.

I had to glue a extra bit of wood to one edge of the rear piece. You ought to have at least 1/8" of clearance after finishing the mast and the tabernacle.

Be careful while assembling things so that the holes for the mast pivot are perfectly square and aligned, before you install everything on the boat.

Oh yeah- I checked everything was lined up before assembly. Will also be careful when attaching it to the boat. I’m making mine removable.

I don’t see anything in the manual about fiberglassing the tabernacle, but I fiberglassed the three outer sides and the rear inside. I also added 1/4” plywood on the sides to the 3/4” wood. Hopefully that will keep things intact.

Did I just do my last fiberglass job on this project?
