Fastener list for deck and rigging hardware

Postby slash2 on Sun Sep 17, 2023 10:56 am

I started pulling out the deck and rigging hardware and realized I have no screws in my kit. I’ve made up a list as best I can, but I’m wondering if anyone has a list they can share? I’m working on putting the finish on the spars and other brightwork so I should be ready to add hardware later this week. I hope to get it all ordered tomorrow and don’t want to miss anything.

I officially cleared off my epoxy mixing table and am using it now to stage the hardware. I think I see a finish line!!! Really hope to get her in the water before winter.

Here is a link to a spreadsheet of the fasteners that I needed: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... ue&sd=true

Some notes:

1: I used mostly inch hardware, but some of the deck hardware needed metric fasteners. I tried to use fine-thread whenever possible, such as #10-32 and 1/4-28.

2: Much of the stuff I bought at the local hardware store, but I ordered boxes of the items that I needed a lot of (such as #10-32 nyloc nuts).

3: The eyestraps on the mast and bowsprit needed 3" bolts - I could not find these locally, so I ordered a box.

4: I tried to 316 marine grade fasteners for below-waterline things like the centerboard pivot, but most of the fasteners were ordinary stainless. (No corrosion issues after two seasons.)

5: I cut many bolts to the exact needed length so the bolt ends would not stick out past the nuts, for example the bolts that held the cleats to the cabin roof, or the eyestraps to the mast.
This is a hassle, but I think it was worth the trouble. I built a sort of mini chop saw based on a Dremel tool, which gave nice clean square cuts. After cuttting I would smooth the ends.

6: For the mast pivot bolt, I made a special fitting from solid 316 alloy rod. Threaded rod is weaker, and the threads will dig into the wood.
