work bench

Does anyone have any advice on what type and size of workbench would be best for building pocketship? I'm trying to prepare my garage for the project. Thanks for all the tips so far.

I built a temporary workbench 3ft by 16ft to do all the preglassing of the panels. Once that was all complete i took that apart and now i just have a 2ft by 6ft bench for my epoxy and supplies. I haven't had any problems yet, but a bigger bench is always a little more organized and easier.

I needed about a 15' flat surface to join and glass big panels for the PS. I've been using those steel legged, plastic topped, folding, tables available at the box stores for all my boat building. For the PS I set up two and put half a 4X8' sheet of particle board over each one. Used the same, with a 2X4" frame on top to make them true and level, to build two kayaks. Advantage is that I can put them away once the project is finished and use them again another day. Jer http://gallery.me.com/jermcmanus

In my small single garage a work bench would have been a luxury. When I had to glass the large panels I rolled my boat as far as I could to one side of the garage (the cradle was on appliance rollers) and simply laid a bunch of 2 x4's on the floor to place the panels on. It wasn't the most comfortable way to do the work but it was okay. There were a few times I had to do a bit of a contortionist act but you can get everything done without a work bench.
