hull hardware package

Postby SHyland83 on Tue Dec 08, 2009 11:56 am

Has anyone looked into the hull hardware package to see if it's cheaper or more expensive than buying all the parts individually? I am almost ready for the screws to install the cabin decking. I would hate to buy them twice, but also don't want to spend 900 bucks now when all i need is a box of screws.

I'll be ordering my hardware package Friday ( big xmas bonus) . I think there is a cost benefit in the package in that items that CLC carry in the online store tend to be lower in cost than item found in the retail stores so if you can afford the inital outlay the package would be the way to go.

Why don't you guys post any pictures? You both seem to be pretty far along, I'm sure everyone would love to see your boats. If you have posted pics please let me know where to view them. Thanks.

There is probably a lot of convenience in ordering the hardware kits and I would have seriously considered them for that fact if they had been available when I needed them for my Pocketship. However, I did save almost $1000 by sourcing them myself as outlined below. Most of my hardware was purchased from the vendors listed on my blog.

Sailboat hardware (includes all sailing hardware, hull hardware, running rigging) $2568 CDN.
CLC sells all of this in 3 kits for $2467 US which with shipping, exchange, and taxes would have cost me about $3496 CDN.
My hardware also includes brass deadlights, turnbuckles, gudgeon and pintles which is probably about a $300 upgrade from the CLC kits.

I havn't gotten as far into the build as I would like what with a full time job and a hobby (blacksmithing) that keeps me traveling.
But, I am moving along and collecting all the cool stuff I want along the way.
As for a building blog, the closest thing I have is the collection of build photos is a flickr account http://www.flickr.com/photos/ah46
I add to it allmost weekly.
