I've read where some of you are putting brass ports in your boars. The 5" port looks about the size that the ports
should be. They are $82.95 at SailBoatStuff on the inter-net, has anyone found them cheaper anywhere?

I got mine here. http://www.greenboatstuff.com/abihabrde.html You can read my brief review I left at the website to see how impressed I was with their customer service.

They are $54.99 and free shipping if you ordered 4 of them. The glass is 4" diameter but with the flange 5.5" which is about the same size as the acrylic ports on the Pocketship plans. You can check out the photos on my blog to see that they ended up being in proportion to the boat and gave what I think is a classy addition to my Pocketship. http://pocketshipadventure.blogspot.com/2009/09/fastener-nightmare.html and http://pocketshipadventure.blogspot.com/2009/10/crazy-canuck-christening-chronicle.html

You're welcome. I forgot to mention that if you are building from a kit ( I wasn't) you will have to adjust the size of the openings that are provided on the kit.
It is a good thing that you ordered right away as their stock could be limited as the manufacturer ABI has gone out of business.

I received my four bronze deadlights. Unfortunately, on one of them, the bronze casting protruded past the mounting ring that held the glass in place and had a very sharp edge. Another protruded slightly but wasn't as sharp as the other one. I got in touch with the people at greenboatstuff.com and they had only two left. They said they that the inner ring was flush with the main casting, and would gladly exchange them. I'm glad that I ordered when I did!

Its a shame to see so many businesses closing these days. I hope somebody picks up there line of products as I know a lot of boat builders who used their line of products. Those plastic ports just don,t do justice to this little boat. IMO. Maybe someone else has a port available such as New found metals out of Port Townsend or Spartan. Help John!!!

I really love the looks of the brass ports. What is the size of the port hole cut outs in the kit. I intend on buying the kit and am trying to figure out how much sniggling I'll have to do to make those port fit.

thanks,

Bill

I just called CLC and asked this question.
The acrylic "discs" are 6 inches. The actual opening is 4-3/4".
