I just saw John's fabricated bracket for a 2 hp 4-cycle Honda. I have one of those for my 14' Penobscot. A wonderful little motor, weighs only 29 lbs and much easier to horse around than a 59 lb 6 hp. I'll probably try that one first, and if it's adequate for the Potomac tides and currents, then sell the 6 hp. The cut out plug on the transom would only have to be about 3 to 5 inches deep, depending on how far it is off center. The plug would be cut including the transom skirt which may need a reinforcing gusset on each side of the cutout. It could be made to just "snap" in and out of place and would (at 20') be almost invisible. The insdie of the transom would have a 3/4" plywood reinforcement permanently installed under the motor mount and a 1/2" plywood "bearing pad" would be attached to the aft side of the motor clamp to prevent scaring of the transom. At only 29 lbs it would easily be removed for stowage in the cabin clamped to a special bracket. The gas capicity is 1 liter which runs the engine for about 40 min at full throtle. It should be "run dry" or drained of gas before being stowed. Comments anticipating problems would be welcome.
