MTsailor Interesting about the brass nav lamps. I have been pokeing around doing the same thing. Found a couple that were way to big a few days ago. But did find an old brass captains compass in wood box whick fits with this little ship. Got some leads as to where I can check in Honolulu for lamps so am looking forward to pokeing around over there ! Thanks for the imput on the extra glass and stuff. I have had to go by the build pictures as I havent bought the plans yet. My wife needed a new crown last month and also had to buy new tires for her car. On th good note I have all the wood and plywood I will need for the build in my shop allready . Have 27 sheets of narra 1/4" marine ply and thousands of board feet of many different kind of local cut wood to work with.probably got enough lead too. I am in no big hurry to get started cause I got a bunch of jobs to get done first. Aloha,Wood_Ogre

Fascinating thread, folks. Thanks for contributing. Perhaps this thread could become a resource to list descriptions, or links to descriptions, for modifications?

I seem to recall coming across a comment (either here or in a blog, I can't remember) about swapping the wooden gaff for an aluminium or carbon-fibre veneer-clad alternative to save weight and improving performance in light airs.

Cheers

There was also some talk about mods to reduce windage from the boom gallows: making a slim/aero gallows, making a removable gallows, or rigging topping lifts and eliminating the gallows altogether.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is reinforcing the bulkhead to side joints. The manual doesn't show anything but the fillets so I'm adding some fabric strips to make sure nothing seperates there.
