I've purchased a pile of a scrap lead, now cluttering up a corner of the shop. It's in 15-45 pound chunks, basically 100% pure so it's very soft. It's a good thing you didn't post this about 2 months ago or I would have driven from California to pick some up. I spent a lot of time scrounging bits and pieces together and some was not even lead. But that job, melting and pouring the lead, is behind me and, as usual, was much less daunting once I actually did it.

This lead is in shot form and melts easily... I did have skim off a couple of spoonfuls of junk for every 10lbs I melted.

Lots of people on Ebay sell lead. Mostly wheel weights melted into pigs of 4 lbs or so. Some offer free shipping. I bought about 60 lbs. each from 2 different sources. As I recall, the average price worked out to about $1.30 per lb. but each auction is different.
