Builders In the UK

Postby vc10rocks on Thu Jan 13, 2011 1:08 pm

This is one of a couple of pocket cruiser designs that I am looking at and is currently at the top of the list. I was hoping there would be some builders in the UK to compare notes with.

Being overseas the option of buying a kit of pre cut parts is probably not practical due to shipping issues and I wondered about building costs and availability of materials in the UK. I

f anyone has any advice to offer it would be very much appreciated. I am also considering a couple of Selway fisher designs along with the BYYC pocket cruiser. I am sure many of you have also considered these and interested to hear the forums views.

Fyne Boats up in the Lakes District distributes CLC kits, so it may not be as prohibitively expensive as you think to buy a kit. Depending on where exactly you live, the raw materials you'd need should be readily available too, though I haven't had cause to build a boat whilst in the UK, so I can't recommend any specific suppliers. If you live anywhere near where people build, use, or maintain boats, you'll be able to find the materials you need.
