Suzuki outboard warranty IS valid in Canada

Postby decurtis on Mon Apr 18, 2011 3:25 pm

I just received an email from Suzuki Marine Canada that says an outboard purchased in the States has a valid 3 year warranty in Canada. Here is exactly what they said:

"Suzuki Canada Inc. currently provides the equivalent Canadian Warranty Coverage for Suzuki outboards that originate in the U.S. as that offered for outboards originally sold in Canada, provided the same model and model year outboard is also sold by Suzuki Canada in this country. "

"Outboards originally sold outside Canada remain in the database of the country of origin. However, this does not impact, in any way, warranty coverage for your outboard while operated in Canada."

This was great news since if you have followed the "Tohatsu 6 HP SailPro outboard suitable for Pocketship? " thread you know I purchased a 2.5HP Suzuki and am having it shipped to Pembina, North Dakota even though I thought I would not have a warranty. Pembina is right on the border and only an hour away (or at least it was until they shut down the main highway to the border because of flooding that could last a month). Fortunately, the parcel pickup business only charges $5 for packages left a month and $5 extra if it is left longer.

Just thought this would be an interesting heads-up to other Canadian Pocketship builders who are looking for good deals on outboards( especially since the Canadian dollar is at $1.04 US).

I think I will also get the 2.5hp...I do see the need of something bigger...
When you did your Pocketship how did you trace the waterline ? Thanks for all your post...very helpful ;)

I just followed the instructions in the manual and used a cheap laser level. You will have to play around a bit to get both sides even but it worked fairly easily.
