I launch Naoned couple of weeks ago...I am getting ready for our "Duel" on the water between 2 Pocketships...what a great little boat...I have a question/recommendation ..about outboard motor. I have been told that I need a 6 hp for this boat...I did not even want a motor...I just want something to make things easier going in and out of channels....Can I just use a 2.5 hp...I believe that is what you have.....Do you find it strong enough ? ( I do not think that the current on the Potomac and the Chesapeake is that bad. 2.5 hp should be enough... )
Also I am having some adjustment trouble...It looks like the gallows is to high.. I have already cut the thing down by 4". But in low wind the boom bump into it....damaging the finish. Can you advise on this ?

I just got everything installed this week on my Pocketship so I don't have any real life experience with the outboard yet but will post my results in the next few weeks along with photos of the outboard bracket and outboard.

As for the gallows problem, I have found on my Pocketship that making sure the peak halyard is pulled nice and tight keeps the boom well above the gallows.

Thanks for your help.....You are right...I thought to leave the peak a little lower in low wind in order to help performance but I was totally wrong...thanks again....

Eyeballing photos of your boat, it looks like your gooseneck is fastened a couple of inches lower down on the tabernacle compared to mine:



It will take you a few minutes to refasten the gooseneck higher on your tabernacle. Three or four inches higher? You've got plenty of extra hoist on your mast track, so the sail will just be higher. Problem fixed. I've not gotten any feedback that booms are hitting tabernacles, so it must just be that your gooseneck is low.
