internal ballast

Postby chaertl on Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:15 pm

Hi everybody,

Here's a weird thought for the day. Since lead shot seems to be running about $2.00 a pound would filling the ballast area with concrete after placing some tubing to keep the limber holes open be an option?

Don't know about concrete but you might want to check this out #50 $83.99 ship inc.

Incidentally Lead weights about 700 lbs/cf and concrete around 150 lbs/cf. So that concrete would take up almost 5 times the volume for the same weight as the lead.

Plus, you wouldn't be able to move the ballast around to optimize it's location.
