Work goes on and making some progress: The rudder, tiller and boom gallows are finished. Stock has been glued up for the boom, yard and bow sprit. Hand working mahogany wood is good for the soul. Stay warm. Jer http://gallery.me.com/jermcmanus (PocketShip Project)

Hello fellow PocketShippers. It was a good Winter here in Arizona and I'm getting packed up to return to my PocketShip hull in Montana. I was able to accomplish a lot this winter: I cut an ancient Folkboat mast to size & shape, and have completed the boom, yard, bow sprit, boom gallows, mast tabernacle, rudder and tiller. All, except for the mast, are made from mahogany and are glassed and ready for varnish. Fortunately, I was able to stain the sitka spruce mast to match the color of the mahogany parts. It is also ready for varnish. Parts for the hatch, companionway, rub rails and toe rails are cut. Some fitting will be required, so they remain unassembled and unfinished. A good friend made beautiful dead eyes and belaying pins/racks for me. He's a true artist with his lathe. My four opening brass port lights and brass hawse pipes have been milled down to fit the hull thickness of the PocketShip. Can't wait to get back to Montana to work on the boat. I hope this summer will be as productive. Photos are at http://gallery.me.com/jermcmanus PocketShip Project.

Cheers. Jerry (aka mtsailor) http://gallery.me.com/jermcmanus

It was a good summer in Montana and got lots done. Down to the detail work, like rigging, now. "S/V Carlyn J" should see water early in the summer of 2014.

Was able to post some photos on Flicker. They are a bit mixed up, but the idea is there.

Hi. The opening ports and the rest of the brass and other fittings came from Ebay and a couple of lucky local buys. Got a pile of rigging/parts and a mast locally off an old Folk Boat and got the ports off Ebay about six months before I found the matching brass surrounds. Only thing missing now are the hook latches that hold the ports open....I'll find em. Jer

Final construction photos are posted (nope, no baggywrinkle, but there are deadeyes and belaying pins). Sorry that Flicker scrambles pictures. Will be launching Friday. Sailing pictures will follow.

Looks great!
How did you manage to find those port lights? Those are hard to find these days. Have you been collecting all that bronze stuff for years?
Good job,
Bob

Hi. Got the brass opening ports off Ebay a few years ago. Shortly after I found them, up popped matching surrounds from a different Ebay source. Just a lucky find.

Good luck.
