I just went back and looked at "Hood's" pictures--appears he is using torx, but I still agree square would be better.

BTW, I just noticed also that he put the steel strips on his keel before stitching the hull, etc. That means the fiberglass will go over them--so I don't know how they will give him any protection from water infiltration if he ever rubs through to the steel. I just hope he has nice sandy-beaches where he sails.

OK, this is getting stranger and stranger--I looked at Hood's pics again and I now see that he has 'glassed the keel already--even though in those pictures you can plainly see that the keel and centerboard trunk are the only parts of the boat that have been built. Looking at later shots of the build he has posted, it looks as though he has a lot of experience building boats and has his own way of doing things. For the most part he appears to be doing a beautiful job--as far as you can tell from photos.

Anyway, I see that the keel shoe will be outside the fiberglass after all and I wish him luck on the completed build--perhaps he plans to overlap the hull fiberglass up to the keel shoe?

Hood, you're making lot's of progress and looks like some interesting innovations I wouldn't have the courage to try. Looking good though. I'll be interested to see how you fiberglass the hull-to-keel connection when you turn the boat over.
