Chesapeake Light Craft - Boatbuilders Weekend

Postby jwv630 on Thu Apr 26, 2012 12:17 pm

Hi Everyone:

Wanted to give you a heads-up on an event that I know you'd enjoy. Chesapeake Light Craft holds their 'OkoumeFest' every year in May. I've attended several times; always learned something new, saw some nice boats, and had a great time. The dates are Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. The activities on Friday (shop tours, building demonstrations, seminars, barbecue) start at 2pm and are held at CLC's shop in Annapolis. Saturday is the on-water day and is being held at Matapeake Park on Kent Island, across the Chesapeake Bay but not far from CLC's shop. I'll be there with my Skerry, and my son. Hope to meet you....

Here's a link for more info: http://www.clcboats.com/boatbuilding_classes/196.html

Dad and I are melting and pouring lead for the keel ballast this Saturday. Looking forward to it (I think...)

Regards,

I have never been to one but hope that this year will work out. If there is a boat ramp I may bring Naoned :)

Hey Pascal:

There is a boat ramp close by. It's the Matapeake Launch Ramp. Click on the link that I provided in my initial post; then go to the section called 'Important Notes Regarding Saturday' as it contains a link showing a map where the launch is. Hope to see you there; love to see your rig.

CLC's PocketShip #1 will be there giving rides all day Saturday, weather permitting. (So far we haven't been defeated by weather there, yet.)

If you can make it, OkoumeFest is an incomparable gathering of small wooden boats!

OkoumeFest is May 11-12. Click here for more info.

This is a photo of PocketShip at a windy OkoumeFest a few years back:
