Bubbles in Fiberglass

Postby jwv630 on Sat May 19, 2012 1:28 pm

Hi Everyone:

I'm fiberglassed the centerboard with the first coat of epoxy last night. When I checked it this afternoon there were some small bubbles around the edges. Is it best to:

*Leave as it and apply 2nd/3rd coats of epoxy?
*Score bubbles with a razor and apply 2nd/3rd coat of epoxy?
*Cut out bubbles with a razor and apply new pieces of fiberglass in their place? (note that the bubbles are quite small; 1" x 1/4")
*Other?

Thanks very much for your suggestions......Good luck

For me it's always been easier to handle bubbles right away. I generally cut them out, apply a patch that covers the entire area and overlaps the remaining fiberglass and then I feather it in with sanding after the filler coats. Adds a little bit of time and effort but it's a good fix.
