PocketShip North of Montreal- "So True" reaches her new home

Picked-up "So True" from Dave Curtis' home in WInnipeg this weekend. After 3 road days and 2,400 km to Shawbridge, Quebec she's none the worse for wear although that boom gallows delivered fearful execution amongst the insect population on the Trans-Canada East. Talk about crusty!

She trailed on her EZ-Loader EZL80 like there was nothing being pulled behind my Mercedes B200, although the difference did show up in the gas mileage. No problem getting her up and down some of the steeply graded hills on the ON-17E and no swaying from side to side- the latter probably due to the ballast in her keel which kept snug in its bunk the entire way.

Couldn't resist putting her in the water on the way home so I launched her off a boat ramp when we got to Thunder Bay and took her for a sail for an hour or so. Conditions were beautiful and before too long I was able to put her through her paces single-handed without too much trouble. She pointed well and behaved nicely for her new owner. She was quite the eye grabber. Lots of oo-ing and ah-ing from some of the locals and two guys from a tribe of visiting South Africans who were out on a Sandpiper 565 pronounced her one of the prettiest boats they'd seen under sail- A testament to both her design and the superb craftamanship of Dave Curtis.

I'll be having a small bronze builder's plaque engraved with Dave's name made-up and placed on the companionway hatch cover to capture her pedigree for posterity.

As I replied in an email to you I am very pleased the trailering of So True on its long road trip was uneventful (except for the boom gallows bug collector). I am now convinced a larger trailer than the Trailex one offered by CLC has stability advantages. The extra foot between the inside of the fenders and the overall extra width and length means a Pocketship's hull doesn't hang over the width of the trailer. The EZL80 is only 140 lbs heavier than the Trailex aluminum so for most towing vehicles that is not an issue. It is also rated for a weight of 2000 lbs vs 1400.

You didn't tell me in your email that you squeezed in a sailing session on the way home. Get used to the admiration from fellow sailors as Pocketship's classic lines with a modern flair usually attracts attention dockside and on the water. Hopefully you have some photos you can send my way.

The builders plaque is something I just hadn't gotten around to so I am touched by the kind gesture.
