gluing CB trunk blocking

Postby DanaDCole on Sat Dec 21, 2013 10:31 pm

On page 27 of the manual, it looks like the epoxy for gluing the CB trunk blocking has been thickened with wood flour. All the boats I have built before (two) have called for colloidial silica for thickening epoxy when gluing. Is there a reason to do it differently in this case? Does it make any difference? This is obviously one place where I don't want to make any mistakes.

I wondered the same thing, but in regards to the Centerboard fill on page 52. The mix looks dark like it would be mixed with wood flour instead of Silica. I emailed CLC and was told that it is Silica, but that the photos make it look darker than it actually is. I'm using Silica mixed epoxy for all bonding of wood to wood. That's what the manual says to do (p. 9).
The wood flour seems to be reserved for fillets.

Thanks for clarifying. Glad I asked, and surprised they did not say anything about it in the manual.
