Mainsheet Block

Postby Bflat on Tue Feb 25, 2014 1:14 pm

Page 29 of the manual shows the mainsheet block. Its position places it over the centerboard slot blocking & cleats. I'm wondering if the base is simply screwed into the cockpit deck, blocking & cleats below or if it is through bolted. There does not appear to be enough room to through bolt it. It seem like it could easily tear out if just held with wood screws. Perhaps not. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Bob

Mine is held on with screws, through the plywwod and into the cleats on the top of the centerboard trunk. The screws I used were pretty herky...I don't see the base going anywhere anytime soon.

Okay, thanks Jon

BTW I've never heard of "herky" :)

I also used screws to hold the mainsheet block in place, and although they were 2" long, I'm not sure they were "herky" whatever that is. I've had yepimadeit out about a dozen times now since last fall and haven't even thought about it coming loose. captain charlie

I dimly recall using 2-inch long #8 screws on my boat. Not the kind of installation you'd do on a Swan 56, but countless whitecap days later and no signs of it popping out.
