A theoretical question: What do you think is the estimated lifetime of a Pocketship when it has been processed fairly solid and had no damage?

The oldest wood-epoxy composite boats are from the 1970's and are still at 100%. As long as you can keep water from getting to the plywood---which requires occasional touch-ups to the inevitable dings and scrapes---and if you keep up the paint and varnish so that the epoxy is protected from UV sunlight, I think you're looking at many generations.

PocketShip #1 is a pretty good trial horse. It's lived outdoors uncovered about nine months of the year for the past six years. There are some scratches and worn spots, but it looks good enough to take to a big show tomorrow. Some moisture has gotten into the transom around the aperture for the tiller. We'll fix that this fall.

Now I'm going to build a Wood Duck to test my skills, the plans I have quite a few weeks. If I can do that well, then I'll start with the Pocketship. I look forward to both.
