toe rails

Postby kpbroughton on Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:23 pm

Just finished my toe rails . They are the size that are shown on the plans but when i step on them they seem narrow if used to walk on if you want to get to the bow. May make mine one strip wider from the front edge of cabin to the back of cabin, Saying that is the cabin roof strong enough to step on to get to the bow eg to drop the anchor etc

Those toe rails are to help keep you from slipping off the cabin roof on your journey to the foredeck. So far my cabin roof has held me up and I am about 190 pounds. If I were to build another pocketship I would add another beam midway on both sides of the hatch for a little more support. If you change the width or height of the toe rails review the deck rigging plan first. The shrouds and the jib sheet blocks could be affected.
Once you get the mast, shrouds, and boom attached there are things to hang on to so the journey gets easier.
