Miss Janet Launched

Postby herbt on Wed Dec 17, 2014 3:16 pm

Finally got everything together and launched Miss Janet yesterday on a fine day in December here in North Carolina. She sails better than advertised even with a very light breeze. This is a terrific design for this class of boat. The shakedown cruise went very well with only one or two very minor modifications to be made. I would love to build another one.

Beautiful! I love it. When did you start construction? Must feel amazing to get it in the water. I think I'll take mine out this weekend for a "practice" cruise -- I'm too impatient to wait until everything is finished :P

Two questions: 1. What is the grey material on the cabin roof? Is that non-stick material? Pretty nifty.

2. I think you have rope tied around the upper breasthook to tie down the jib. I don't think I've seen that before.

Hello Craig

The cabin roof is painted with gray non skid to provide some grip when raising the mast etc. That extra line you see hanging over the jib sheet is just excess mainsail outhaul line that needs to be trimmed off.
I started construction in Jan. of this year and enjoyed every minute of it. As I said, I would love to build another one.
I have read your posts and you seem to be making good progress.

I see what you are looking at, that is just jib sheets wrapped around the furled jib.

Ah, ok I see what you mean about the jib sheet. Makes sense. I like the non-stick on the roof.

Just beautiful! And many congratulations; you must be proud. Really like the color that you painted the hull. Good luck.
