Geoff Kerr Video on Painting with Interlux Brightside

Postby DanaDCole on Sat Aug 15, 2015 9:56 am

I discovered through "Small Boat Adviser" magazine that Geoff Kerr has a great video on the Off Center Harbor site on painting with Interlux. He uses Interlux Pre-Kote primer and Interlux Brightside to get a great finish. This is a very informative video. I had learned a lot about the technique from the CLC manuals and website videos, but I picked up a couple more tips from this one. If you are not an Off Center Harbor member you will not be able to watch the entire video. It's not that expensive to join, though, and I have found it very useful and entertaining.

One thing I noticed when watching this is that Goeff Kerr mentions that he thinks Pre Kote has talc in it to help build it up. I know the Pre Kote I used about 10 years ago had talc in it. I had some problems with the paint sticking and I think that was partly due to the talc content and partly due to my not knowing at the time that you are supposed to sand most of it off.

The newer version of Pre Kote contains microspheres. I do not know if the microspheres replace the talc entirely or not. What I can say is that the Interlux literature only mentions the microspheres. Nothing is said about talc so I'm hoping that means it is no longer included in the product.
