where to mount the navigation lights?

I'm in a bit of a quandary as to where to mount the front navigation lights. At first I was planning to mount them in the side panels of the front locker, but this would place them fairly low, too low I think to meet safety standards. The only pictures I have found so far that show these lights are of Jeff Hatch's and Charlie Huie's beautiful boats. In both cases they are mounted on the outside of the dorade boxes.

This is an ideal place to mount them except for one thing: how do you run power to them without exposed wiring in the cabin? The only option I can see is to drill holes in the bottom of the dorade boxes, which I really don't want to do. I suppose if the holes are drilled in the very front, normally highest point of the box bottoms there would seldom be any water there, and of course the holes can be very well sealed once the wiring is in place.

I plan to send messages to both Charlie and Jeff asking how they did it, but in the meantime, if anyone knows of a better way, please share it.

Thanks!

Wow, looks great! Too bad I've already enclosed the dorade boxes. Still, I should be able to reach in there and seal up the holes, they just won't have the fancy hull-through fittings. Do you like the Sikaflex 291i better than 3M 5200?
