The part of the bracket that attaches to the transom is about 4 1/2" above the water line. Then measuring from the top of the bracket mount, with the measuring tape level, it is about 10" to the starboard edge of the transom. These measurements don't have to be all that exact. The parameters for me were to make sure the motor can not hit the rudder, height adjustments allowing the screw (propeller) to go deep enough into the water, and to make sure the bolt holes are all inside the lazarette. It's best if you can have a helper or two hold things in place while you make these tests. If you don't have a motor yet, the 4 1/2" and 10" measurements should be fine for a short-shaft motor.

Also, I bought some sheet rubber and cut pads to fit under the bracket.
