Boom rigging

On the boom the mainsheet passes through two blocks held by eye straps and terminates at another eye strap. I assume those eye straps are simply screwed to the bottom of the boom with some long screws. The manual doesn't really get into that detail, but does make mention of it as concerns the gaff eye strap, advising that it's a high loaded part requiring long screws. I'm wondering if anyone has run into problems with the screws pulling out. Also, what length screws did you use for the eye straps on the boom? Has anyone tried thru bolting those eye straps (might be hard getting long enough bolts for that)?
Thanks in advance.

I through bolted the eye straps. Finding long enough bolts isn't a problem since any good hardware store has stainless one that length. Use a fender washer under the head and make sure the nuts are on the eye strap side so the sharp ends of the bolts don't tear up the sail. The gaff screws are as long as you can make them.
