Just a little too high! Can I shorten the tabernacle?

Thanks for the comment. I was thinking of dropping the lot by 6" - 7", that is, the boom will be lower and the mast will be shorter ( same length and weight above the pivot ). There is of course an increased risk of getting one's head in the way of the boom - an extra coat of varnish should protect the boom sufficiently. Once the cabin top is installed, I might just make a short tabernacle out of some scrap and fix the boom to it. That should give me a good idea about cabin ( and head ) clearance. Instead of boom-gallows, I'll have a removable X-contraption for transport and a topping lift when the mast is up.
I guess the drop boards could be tapered so that they only need to be lifted a few inches. Alternatively, hinged louver doors do look nice and seem to work well - a few people have them on their PSs.
