launching

I recently went to a lake in central Arkansas for a beautiful fall day of sailing. To my dismay, I couldn't launch - the ramp was too shallow to get the boat in the water without flooding the back compartment (which I did once before) of my minivan. Ruined the whole day, to say the least. Anyone have this problem? I was looking online at a tongue extender which bolts under the trailer tongue and is extended when launching and recovering. Anyone have any experience with this? Help, Captain Charlie

I've seen those used on YouTube but not in person. Most of the ramps at the lake I used to sail at in Nashville were too shallow, or at least required a lot of effort to launch from. I drove around to a couple before finding the "perfect" ramp. If there are others on the lake, maybe another ramp could work. Then you wouldn't need to mess with a trailer extender.

I lowered my boat by flipping the trailer axle above the leaf springs. This resulted in about 3 1/2" lower overall. I would probably have the same launching issue had I not done this.

Jeff: That's a really interesting idea, actually. I'll have to see how much that would help me on my trailer.
