I used templates with paper and that worked ok. It was time consuming and the paper I was using was thick. I would suggest using something like the thickness of notebook paper. Also note, the template on the port side works on the starboard side. I did see a trick on a youtube video I was watching recently and the guy used blue tape at the edges to get it more exact. Meaning you get close with the paper and then use the blue tape to mark the last part to the edge. Looked like he got a very close edge using that method. He was marking for plywood, so watch out with the other side of the tape. It will stick to the glass and doesn't separate very well. Once you pull the template out of the boat, just tape on the other side, so you don't have a sticky edge.
