Rub Rail Installation

Postby Mflyer65 on Wed Feb 19, 2020 1:36 pm

I am looking for anyone that considered only 2 layers on the rub rail instead of 3. I am currently installing the rub rail and all seems to be fine as I have a steam box to use. But looking at the rail it seems that 2 layers looks pretty good. No sure why there are 3 layers other than possibly looks?
Anyone else just use 2 layers? I am also considering using brass half oval over the outer edge. Any ideas welcome.

I just followed the manual, which I think a lot of builders did. I don’t know of any technical reason that 2 couldn’t be used, except for looks like you said. I do like the brass idea. It would give it more protection. I think some builders had the rails crack while using.

Thanks

I used two layers because I liked the look better than 3 layers. Its personal preference. A wider rail will I guess give better protection if you are rubbing against a dock...

Thanks all,
I think I will just install 2 and the brass when all is done. I like the look as well.
