Center board pennant

Postby chaertl on Tue May 25, 2021 5:09 pm

Hi guys,

Long time no see. I've got a ten year old centerboard pennant that's in dire need of replacement. Pretty sad when white piece of rope is now black and green. Has anyone replaced theirs and how did you do it?

Thanks,

Chris

I had to do mine, Was not fun but hung transom from beefed up garage door header and the bow from a frame I made from 4x4 and 4x6 timbers. I had made the frame previously for lifting my old Lightning off the trailer.
If I had to do it again I would seek out someone with an auto lift like the ones used by muffler shops which lift at corners and leave the center open.
Rig up some slings and lift off trailer. My driveway version was a lot of work and you need to lift it nearly 3 feet to get to the knot.

Get a friend with scuba gear (or ask in a diving club). It takes a few minutes to pull a new pennant through and tie a knot ... :)

Probably you could do it in a few seconds as well: Take a longer length of rope, pull the extra length through the center board up to the water surface and tie it there.

Or pull the boat to the edge of a sandy beach, tip it over, prop it in position, pull the board out.
