Build cradle wheels

Postby SMHolmans on Mon Nov 19, 2018 5:22 pm

I'm about to put my build cradle on wheels to make use of limited space. What weight limit per wheel do builders recommend? I'm assuming I will have to get into the hull to work, so lockable wheels are essential?

Thanks.

i think the boat weighs 800-1000 lbs. , so 300/400 lb ratings should be fine. I looked at a couple 4” and they were rated at 300 lb. I used 4 furniture dollies and screwed the cradles to the dollies. Each dolly was rated at 1,000, so it was overkill. Mine were not locking, but I would recommend locking. A couple times I would push the whole boat doing some tasks.

Hi,

I used six pneumatic locking casters (probably 6" diameter wheels) mounted on a platform I built using the pallet on which my kit materials were delivered, with some 2x4 extensions to support the width. I too rolled the hull from place to place during the build, and I was grateful that I could lock the platform in place, especially when I was climbing up on the overturned hull to sand and paint.
