Gantt chart type project plan

Postby wmewheel on Tue May 19, 2020 11:52 am

Has anyone (and I it has to be yes) put together a gantt type of project plan for the boat build from a kit? All the tasks that are precedents or jobs that can be done in parallel identified?
I'd rather not re-create this wheel. Thanks, Mark
Want to make sure that I'm doing all the epoxy sets in parallel whenever possible.

Not that I'm aware, at least not on this forum or the blogs I've seen.

You could do the rudder in parallel, and the spars. The stuff on the hull itself though is more or less built to fit, so you wouldn't want to build the companionway too far ahead without being sure it fits to the roof.

(Nerd Alert) I've done it for a Jimmy Skiff II that we (a team of four) build in 2.5 days at the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend last year. It was necessary to figure out what the critical path was to enable us to complete the boat on time, how to divide up the labor amongst the team, as well as plan out when lunches could be and what could be done as other things dried. I did it in Excel and printed out a huge copy for reference during the build (I forget how many sheets of paper, but I remember taping them all carefully together while waiting for the ferry over). Super helpful if you are building a boat in 2.5 days, but a huge pain to set up and populate.
