Custom Boat covers

Postby Mflyer65 on Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:38 pm

With winter setting in I shifted to making sail and boat covers. I purchased the material for the sail cover to match the sail color (no real reason) but purchased a boat tarp 14x28 for $150 off Amazon and cut it to fit the boat. Hacked it here and there and no one would pay me to make another but it works.

Nice job! Did you use a sewing machine to sew any of it?

I have a sailrite sewing machine I used for seams, hems and zipper installs. I also used their easy turn fasteners . Nothing too elaborate. Just clamped material where I wanted a seam , marked it along the fold, cut away the rest after allowing for hems and lived with the mistakes, resewing or remaking seams as I went along. I thing you could use any heavy duty machine for this material. Maybe a bit slow on the zipper area but would still work.
I plan on making cockpit cushions eventually but haven’t decided on just what I want. I’ll need more sailing time before I can decide I suspect.
Kept me busy with a project anyway.
