While making the mast I decided to add a masthead light. I enclosed the wiring inside the mast which was quite the challenge. To do this I built the mast in two stages. The first stage involved glueing three staves only (the aft straight stave to the port and starboard staves) without the upper and lower plugs. I then ran three wires, two red (+) positives and one black (-) negative (which could be shared), this provided power to the LED masthead light and an extra red (+) for any future additions. I wanted to keep the weight as light as possible but also the volume of wires which needed to be threaded through the upper and lower plugs to miss all the mast hardware fittings.
Next, I added the plugs which had to be slightly modified for the wires, then the forward stave was epoxied in place.
Check out the blog for the mast and wiring build and pics.
Cheers Terry from down under.
