I was just thinking along these lines today. I thought of starting a thread of “milestones” so we could post when we reach various milestones. Like, who else, but my Pocketship colleagues, would understand the joy of me saying I’ve sanded the whole top part of the boat?

Which is where I’m at.

I think a milestones thread would be fun. Because you're right...no one else understands why you keep staring at that bowsprit on your bench. "Yes honey, it IS very pretty and the little dent things are very symmetrical. But like I said, supper's ready."

I began this past summer and I am getting ready to glue up the second side of the keel. I am also working on the centerboard.

What gets confusing is when you have multiple milestones all over the place in various states of completion.

Started late Sept 2021, currently in pause mode until Spring 2023 for first splash due to pending cold weather influx.
Kit Build
Paint/varnish complete
Rigged what I can to this point without the tabernacle/mast installed.
Sewed spinnaker.
electrical install really all that remains and I figured I'd poke at that over the winter
Electrical harnesses are pretty much built - Nav, lighting, AIS, GPS, stereo, Epirb installs are the final bits there along with solar passthrough for charging.
Trailer ready for the PS but then I can't work on it in the garage since it would never fit.
Boat's already registered.
One of the last 'construction' related things I have left to do is to make the wood accents for the interior that cover the LED light strips for interior lighting.
Oh, and seal up the hole I cut for the transducer by installing it the same time I do the other bits with 5200 like the stay in the bow and toss in the last bits of foam for the front compartment.

Drew - didn’t you just start about a year ago? I’m impressed! Looking forward to see your first sail pictures.

I started with a partially built kit about a year ago and I’m hoping to flip it before winter sets in. Of course in the meantime I did build a passagemaker and redid a bathroom and became a grandpa. But still.. I’m jealous.

I began my Pocketship build about one year ago. I'm currently working toward fiberglassing the cabin deck topside. She's all up and dimensioned. I'm building from kit and highly recommend this approach. It's been a great journey with a lot of fun tasks.

I started my construction in mid-January 2022. I build according to the plans. Now I am at the stage - I have completed the fitting of floorboards. Also some other details are cutted from plywood.
When I started, I wanted to make a whole hull within a year. Unfortunately, many life circumstances prevent this.
Best wishes, Dmitriy.

Hi there,

We started building from kit in November 2021. Right now we are at page ~95 of the manual. The inside of the lower hull is glassed, sanded and the sections between bulkheads #2 and #8 are already painted. We just started with floorboards. Let's see what we can do in the coming months: the temperature at our workshop might be too cold for epoxy work.

All the best, Dietrich

So, including Terry from Australia (who I know is building but hasn't responded yet), looks like there are at least 8 builds going on right now. Thanks to everyone for all the responses, I was just curious how many of us there are.

Here's to things going well for everyone out there with their construction.

Odds are, I'm 2-3 years out from completion as I'm not retired, etc. Until then I'll be wearing out my little Jimmy Skiff II.

Very thankful for all of you here and especially those blogging. Keep it up.
