Flotation under footwell at stern. How contain?

Hello folks,
I'm curious as to how people are installing their foam under the footwell between the transom and BH8.
I know some people have extended the footwell sides down to the hull in order to encase and completely seal that area. I'm a little hesitant to create an area I can't get to, so I'm thinking of simply running a bungee on either side to hold the foam in place.
What is everyone doing for this I wonder?

I just stuffed mine in tight. I think I used horizontal layers. It’s light so there’s not much tendency for it to shift.

I used vertical layers. Insert it slightly tightly. Also I added some epoxy between layers.

We used plywood to vertically extend the sides of the footwell to the floorpanels. In our case the area below the footwell is entirely sealed AND filled with foam. I don't see a problem: The seatbacks are entirely sealed too as well as the aft section of the keel. If the area below the footwell is not sealed, humidity and unpleasant stuff from the plastic bags with waste will accumulate in an area hard to clean. If its entirely sealed, you have two lazarattes that are easy to clean. Plus the safety aspect that leak will not flood both lazarattes and the volume below the footwell but just a part of the aft section.

G’Day Martin,
I also enclosed the aft buoyancy chamber for all the same reasons indicated by Dietrich. My only deviation was that I did not install foam, I made the area an air buoyancy chamber (which is accepted as buoyancy in Australia) I also installed a round access hatch to allow future inspection. Fully sealed electrical conduit ran through the buoyancy area up into the lazarette area.
You can check out my install on the March 2023 Blog post….

I just stuffed a couple life jackets into the space. In fact, most of my lazarette space is filled with stuff that floats (fenders, extra lifejackets, cushions, etc).

I cut pieces of rigid pink insulation foam, and glued them together and to the underside of the footwell with polyurethane construction adhesive.
