Wood for spars

Postby Dmksails on Tue Jul 30, 2024 6:14 pm

I'm trying to find a source for the wood used for the spars. I have found a source for CVG FIR but it's very expensive and i can't find any thicker than 1" ( 3/4" actual). There is also a source with premium kiln dried fir 2x4s that are a fraction the cost of the CVG and are mostly free of knots.

What are the pros/cons of going the 2x4 route? Thanks!
