Just sailing

Most of our posts relate to constructing the Pocketship, which is good. But I think we need to remind ourselves and inform future builders what a fine boat this is once we get out on the water. I went out yesterday in nice conditions. Sunny, 65 F, winds pretty steady at 6-8 knots with occasional gusts of 12-15 that lasted a few minutes. It was one of the nicest sailing days I’ve had. The boat is a dream. Winds became really consistent so I was able to lock the tiller and spend time fiddling with boat stuff and standing in the companionway as well as sitting up on the bow. A Benenteau sailboat motor-sailed up close and I think we admired each other’s craft. I’m the kind of person that can’t sit still, but when I’m sailing, time just stops. I was hesitant when I embarked on this build three years ago but I’m glad I dove in.

G’day Steve,
Thanks for posting your sailing day experience. Your comments not only confirm a builders decision to build this yacht but it also motivates me to continue my build.
Thanks again for you comments on PocketShips sailing abilities
Cheers mate

And thanks for the kind reply. Pocketship sits in a great place- it has a lot of the thrill of dinghy sailing without getting wet. It is amazingly stable to walk around the boat. I think nothing of going up to the bow. You can’t do that in a dinghy. Sure, it would be nice to have a cabin I could walk around in, but then I couldn’t pop her on and off a trailer that I can pull with my RAV4. And she single-hands easily.

Thanks for this post Steve. I'm in the middle of my build so it's a lot of fun to hear about what all I can look forward too!
