No room in cradle for side panels?

Postby Dmksails on Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:25 pm

I've wired up the 2 hull panels and BH7. On the port side, there is just enough room to push the side panel thru, but on the starboard side I"m about 1/16-in too thin! The bulkhead is in line with the cradle.

Has anyone else seen this problem and how did you fix it? I'm thinking of rasping that side down to a point where I can just push the side panel thru.

Hi DMK

I vaguely remember to have taken a tiny bit off a bulkhead here and there. I would avoid to squeeze the panels in as the bulkhead might start warping. Just to be sure you could double check that the two half’s of the cradle are perfectly aligned and the cradle is symmetric. I would not worry too much about 1/16 inch.

The critical step is later when tack welding panels, bulkheads and transom. Until then you can still correct the hull shape. The most difficult part with our build was to get the bow shape right, when installing bulkheads #1 and #2.

I had the same problem and wound up shaving the cradle arms a bit. Everything was perfectly square and centered in the cradle but still just a tad off. It wasn't much at all, less than 1/8 inch. The cradle was also built correctly. If there was a builder error somewhere, I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the info! I will trim the one side down. Did check the cradle and if appears to be square and true
