Greetings fellow woodworking sailors and paddlers,

I am new to this forum/site as I recently bought the “Study Plans” for the Pocketship build and I am in the pondering / deciding stage. I have the time and capabilities to complete a task like this as I am not new to woodworking and building.

I have reached out to a few “local” (Louisiana) builders that have the Pocketship in their builder’s list and all I get is ….. crickets; no reply, no response and that is OKAY, I understand.

So then, I am reaching out to a broader base – you know “enquiring minds want to know” Ha! And I have questions that I will submit later.

In the meantime, while I ponder this build, my order for the Peace Canoe is supposed to be machined tomorrow. This is a build for my two grandsons (13 & 11) when they come next month for their summer visit. We will “build” the canoe together (mostly them with oversight).

I want them to be able to say “I built this canoe”. I will take it back to SC with them for their use with their dad and hopefully they can have lots of good canoe adventures and perhaps graduate to a real boat with sails (no offense intended to the paddlers).

Welcome aboard Grandpa!
I have seen your posts on the CLC forum, and I think you have passed on advice to me there.

The Pocketship is a sweet boat that is both small enough and big enough. It may be a bit of a daunting build but I found it moved along nicely if you just think about ‘The next thing’. Then look back and think - ‘that part is done’.

This is an active forum and I’ve asked many questions here. Even the dumb questions were respectfully answered.

Enjoy the build with the grandsons. I’m too far away to build something with my granddaughters but I do plan on building each one a kayak. I delivered the first one a little over a year ago.

Welcome! Pocketship is a fun build. I'd imagine it were a lot more fun if I were retired and had more time. You should get a kick out of it.

Ahoy and thanks for the welcome !
This little boat has peaked my interest since I discovered its existence.
My one initial concern (and not majorly significant) is that like a closet or workshop - I wish it was "a little" longer. This wouldn't be the deal breaker; I've had sailboats shorter than this and had fun.

Anyway, I am glad to be aboard. :D
