PocketShip Building Blogs

Welcome to PocketShip.net! This bulletin board is for builders of the Chesapeake Light Craft-John C. Harris "PocketShip" design, a 15-foot micro cruiser sailboat built from a kit or plans.

For more information on PocketShip, click here: http://www.clcboats.com/pocketship

This site gathers PocketShip builders in one place. Here you can share photos, tips, questions, and---eventually---your sailing adventures in PocketShip! CLC will also post design updates and tips here as they come up.

We'll try to knock down spam as quickly as possible.

Hi dear builders,

My project is just in a preparation phase and a "bit" different:

I expect the first real building steps in about a few weeks.

Aluminum Pocketship; what a wonderfully tough boat that will be. What are some special considerations, if any, in using aluminum on the design? Will you use aluminum spars? Carbon, perhaps?

Not sure if this is the right place for discussion. But I'll post my reply in the other section.

I bowed to the inevitable and started a blog: https://dougbraun.com/pocketship_blog/
It will be mostly a "proof of progress" blog: not too many philosophical musings, just photos and brief explanations..

I live in Thailand, and with COVID-19 shutting down a lot of travel, I decided that building boats would be a great way to spend my time. I've just finished a Mill Creek 13, and began working on the PocketShip last month. I mentioned what I was doing to the wood workers I hired to help me build my wooden home a few years ago, and they were really excited at the idea of trying out boat building. So I'm "cheating" a little bit and hired a couple extra pairs of hands.

Here is my simple build blog:
