Hi Martin,
our approach has been a different one, we used the PAINTED waterline as a reference. We used the same measures as given on page 217 in the manual. 16 1/2" above the bottom of the keel. Then, we placed bow eye above the PAINTED waterline. Attached photo: The red lines BELOW the blue stripe indicate the PAINTED waterline. When looking closely, you might see the predrilled holes for the boweye. The apparent thickness of the blue line is one inch when looking from the side. Thus, the center of our bow eye sits more than one inch above the PAINTED waterline. I don't think the exact position is very critical and in our case the position was determined by 'somewhere above the waterline but not too high'.
BTW: The second picture shows the situation from the inside after installation, seen through inspection port in bulkhead #1 through the 'foam tunnel'. Right after drilling the holes, we had glued a piece of wood to this area with thickened epoxy and the whole thing was enforced with more glass tape. The bolts are 8mm thick and the black stuff is sealant.
